Note how he uses his bridging word from his illustration first (“live under the same roof” and “neighborly”) before actually telling the story. Then he gives the illustration. After that, he uses the bridging words again for emphasis: “You might not be able to live under the same roof with some folks but why not be neighbors with all of them that love the Lord.”
Note also his transition statement: “Now I am saying.” Mr. Havner is using one method of giving the listener a strong cue as to why he’s telling the story in that one line. “Now I’m saying” is a way of saying “the message in the concrete example is like the following in the spiritual reality.”
